Bruce Harris Council Member
Bruce was appointed to the Council in 2004 to fill a vacancy and was elected to fill the remaining unexpired term before being re-elected in 2005. Bruce has served on the Environmental Commission since 1998 and on the Open Space Committee since 2001. A resident of the Borough for 26 years, Bruce received a B.A. from Amherst College, an MBA from Boston University and a JD from Yale Law School. He worked for the former Bell System for 16 years in various managerial positions, and is currently an attorney at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international law firm, specializing in commercial lending. Bruce serves on the Planning Board, co-chairs the Open Space Advisory Committee, serves as the Council’s liaison to the Environmental Commission, and heads the Council’s Communications Committee. |

Richard E. Crater Council Member
Served on the Borough Council from 1992 through 1997 and was elected again in 2003. Rich received a BA and MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has 36 years of human resource management experience and has been an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Union County College. Along with his wife, he owns “d.j.crater”, a local clothing store on Main Street. He served on the Board of Education for 10 years, was a member of the Chatham Emergency Squad and the Jaycees and received the Jaycees’ Distinguished Service Award in 2006.
Rich has been particularly involved in public safety matters and has worked to ensure that the Borough police and fire departments maintain their reputation as being among the best in the state. Rich has also played a key role in Chatham Borough’s labor contract negotiations and serves as the Council’s liaison to the Chamber of Commerce and the Shade Tree Commission.

James J. Collander Council Member
A resident of the Borough for 34 years, Jim has served on the Council since 2005. He received his BS from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he has also done post-graduate work. Jim has very effectively used his 30 years of experience as a municipal finance executive to help the Borough maintain the highest possible credit rating and to develop annual budgets that allow the Borough to meet the needs of residents while keeping the Borough’s share of property taxes stable. He was a boys and girls soccer coach, past President of the Chatham Baseball Club, and served on the Board of Recreation and Zoning Board of Adjustment. In addition to taking the lead on financial matters, Jim has worked tirelessly to address the vexing issue of traffic congestion in the Borough, and also serves as liaison to the Chatham Joint Recreation Advisory Committee, which is working to combine the recreation programs of the Borough and Township and to address the increasing demand for recreation facilities. |
